Tease
(A graveyard on misty night - A man is heading towards a very new looking grave which is surrounded in flowers.)
Man: Emilia, my poor wife. What can I say to apologise to you. I know I've failed you.
(screen blurs someone is watching him and coming closer, the man doesn't notice)
Man: They said that all you had was a fever.
(he kneels down and starts putting rose branches on the grave. We see a bat flying towards him)
Man: I know you can here me Emilia. You're waiting for Klaus to release you so you can become a vampire like him. I won't allow it. I'll stop him.
(the bat in a swirl of blue light transforms into Klaus in full vampire gear)
Klaus: Well Mr Yeager (spelling?)
Man: Klaus!
Klaus: I thought you would have had enough of this place after poor Emilia's burial today. (laughs)
Man: She can't come to you as long as the wild rose branches are on the grave
Klaus: If she were in her grave of course. (laughs again) You see Emilia was very anxious to be with her own kind. You're too late Mr Yeager. You're guarding an empty grave. (laughs again then vanishes into a flurry of bats)
Man: Klaus! I'll see you dead.
Klaus: (flying away in bat form) You and as they say, who's army?
(cut to opening credits)
Act 1
(Interior of Helsing house. Max is playing with a piece of string obviously bored)
Max: I never said I was bored Uncle Gustav. I really like being in Europe but sometimes I'd give a dollar just to listen to a baseball game you know
Gustav: (out of shot) I know Max. It's called culture shock.
Max: Guess I'll just have to get used to it
(Gustav appears carrying a big old radio)
Gustav: Well maybe not
Max: What the heck is that
(Max walks towards Gustav as he puts the radio down on the desk. We can see it broken)
Gustav: It's my old radio. It's been gathering dust in the closet for who knows how long and it still weighs a tonne. It's got short wave. You can get the whole world on this Max, not to mention baseball games.
Max: (Unimpressed) Yeah but it's broken
Gustav: Yes well um I've been meaning to repair it but now you can fix it. You have a knack for electronics. Have fun.
(Max picks up the radio and struggles upstairs)
(Gustav is sitting at his desk and starts thumbing through his calendar. He stops on 23 April, St George's Day. Written across the page 'Full Moon'. Gustav stops to study it for a moment when there's a knock on the door)
(Exterior of Helsing house. Mr Yeager looking very anxious. Gustav opens the door)
Gustav: Yes
Yeager: My name is Paul Yeager. I've been told you might be able to help me.
(Max and Chris' room. Max is trying to fix the radio, Sophie is reading and Chris comes in)
Chris: I know I shouldn't discourage you from energy Max but that thing is from the bronze age. It's never going to work.
Max: See if I let you listen to the Phillies on it
Sophie: (coming forward) Will we be able to hear the New York Metropolitan opera?
(Max and Chris look disgusted)
Sophie: It comes on Saturdays . . . I think.
(Max and Chris shake there heads at her)
(Gustav''s living room. Gustav and Yeager are having tea)
Yeager: His name is Klaus. He met Emilia one night at the theatre. I don't like to go to the theatre. She often went by herself. From the first night she mentioned him she began to change, to grow sick. Later I saw the bite marks on her neck. I still didn't believe it was happening. I took her to Doctors. (growing more and more upset) She was getting so weak. They didn't listen. They gave her pills, PILLS.
Gustav: It's all right Mr Yeager, go on.
Yeager: Please help me
Gustav: What do you want me to do?
Yeager: I want you to hunt this creature down and kill him
(Max's room. He is still struggling with the radio. Chris and Sophie are there)
Chris: If it electrocutes you can I have your allowance
(The radio starts making sounds)
Max: It works!
Chris: Static doesn't count Max
Max: No, no I hear something. Like some sort of two way communication. (hearing voices from the radio) Maybe the guys a spy.
Sophie: Or a taxi driver. He's complaining about someone who didn't tip him.
(Sophie and Chris leave. Max continues with the radio)
(Gustav's living room. Mr Yeager and Gustav are still in discussion)
Gustav: You'll forgive me Mr Yeager but killing a vampire is no easy task. They have a nasty habit of fighting back.
Yeager: I'm a retired army officer Mr Helsing. I know my way around weapons. I can obtain anything you to kill Klaus. I'll pay you
Gustav: I'm not a hitman Mr Yeager. My answer is no.
Yeager: I have been told that you help people. I'm sorry to be mistaken
(Yeager gets up to leave)
(Lucard's Office. Klaus comes into the office and heads towards Lucard who is at his desk)
Lucard: Klaus you're late
Klaus: I was delayed
Lucard: You mean you were out raiding the countryside again against my specific orders
(Klaus turns to leave. Lucard appears in the doorway in front of him)
Klaus: What if I did? You're always telling me about the good old days when you used to terrorise the countryside
Lucard: Klaus I know what it is to be young and enthusiastic but we must have discipline. Things matter now
Klaus: To whom
(Klaus try's to leave again. Lucard stops him. Klaus hits him away and they struggle. Both vamped out they hiss at each other. Lucard grabs Klaus)
Klaus: Ok, ok
(They both return to normal. Lucard goes back to his desk)
Lucard: Good. Now then what did the bank say?
Klaus: The money is ready. One million in cash. I'll contact the environment ministers assistant about delivery tomorrow. Personally I think the price is too high.
Lucard: Then think harder. It's nothing compared to the fortune we'll save by killing that polution bill. Call me when you have contact.
(Lucard makes it clear he wants Klaus to leave. When Klaus finally goes Lucard starts to make a phonecall)
Lucard: Get me Gogha Garra in Osaka
(Exterior of Gustav's house, we hear noises from the radio)
(Max's room, he still fumbling with the radio)
Max: Come on, a ball game, reports, anything.
(suddenly we hear Lucard's voice. Max listens in)
Lucard: (from the radio) Klaus have you confirmed the details of the delivery?
Klaus: Yes Alexander. I'll rendez vous with the ministers assistant tonight.
(cut to Lucard walking through a hallway in his castle on the phone)
Lucard: Where?
Klaus: In the market district, on the old bridge
Lucard: Fine . . . and Klaus after the rendez vous come straight home. no detours, no excuses (he hangs up)
(cut to Max trying to find the call again. He hits the radio)
(Gustav's hallway. Someone is thumping on the door. Gustav goes to open it. Mr Yeager bursts in carrying some strange big bag)
Gustav: Mr Yeager I gave you my answer
Yeager: (Pulling out a map) Look at this. I've marked the areas where Klaus' victims have vanished or been left for dead. he's been attacking in a geometric pattern. A pentangle and here, in the upper left point of the star.
Gustav: What about it?
Yeager: Klaus will strike his next victim there, to complete the pattern. It's a game with him.
Gustav: And where is this?
Max: (appearing at the top of the stairs) I bet it's in the market district. Near an old bridge?
Yeager: He's right. How did he know?
Gustav: Please Max get back up stairs
Max: But I just heard you know who talking with Klaus guy on the radio. There's a rendez vous tonight.
Gustav: Get upstairs Max
(Max slinks of)
Gustav: Like you Mr Yeager, Max wants to find intrigue and patterns everywhere, and so, like you, he does.
Yeager: If you won't kill Klaus for me I'll do it myself. I've got a surprise for you.
(he takes a large dangerous looking bow from his bag. It has a stake in it)
Yeager: You say it's no easy task to ill a vampire. Well perhaps if your wife had been taken by one you'd have the will to take the risk.
Gustav: It's not a question of will
Yeager: I swear to you Helsing. I'm going to kill this vampire and I'll also kill anyone who gets in my way
(he packs up his bags and leaves. Max appears on the stairs again)
Max: I heard him say he's going to get a vampire. Shouldn't we help?
Gustav: No (he looks distressed. Max looks confused)
(Evening at an old wall. Klaus approaches as Gustav walks down the steps towards him)
Klaus: Alright I'm here as you requested but get to the point, I have some business to attend to.
Gustav: I came here to warn you Klaus. You're in danger
(Klaus sneers)
Gustav: You've arranged some sort of meeting tonight in market district. You must cancel it. If you go you'll be destroyed and I won't be able to help you.
(Klaus walks of)
End Of Act 1
Act 2
(Exterior of Helsing house)
Max: (from inside) look I picked up Lucard on his cellular phone. I did.
(cut to Chris and Max's room. Chris , Max and Sophie are there)
Chris: Yeah right
Max: Look I'll prove it you you.
(He starts working the dials of the radio again. The radio starts to pick up a ball game)
Chris: Yes!
(It cuts off)
Chris: Way to go slugger
(Max tries the radio again. We hear Lucards voice)
Lucard: (from radio) There must have been a security breech. Possibly on this line
Klaus: (from radio) I thought your cellular phones were secure
Max: Ha! What do you say now guys?
Lucard: (from radio) Nothing is secure Klaus.
(cut to Lucard on his phone. He is being fitted for a new suit)
Lucard: I'll tell you what. Until we can set up another rendez vous with the ministers assistant we'll leave the money with the General
(Cut to Chris and Max's room)
Max: Who?
Sophie: Shhhhh
(the radio goes dead)
Chris: You can bet that whatever that moneys for somebody's going to get hurt. We should find it.
Max: Yeah but who's the general?
(Gustav's hallway. Mr Yeager has just arrived)
Yeager: Klaus never showed up
(they go through to the living room)
Gustav: I didn't think he would. Mr Yeager please, a vampire would be foolish to strike in a predictable pattern and I've never yet heard of a foolish vampire.
Yeager: Perhaps you're right. Perhaps Klaus knew not to take another victim tonight
Gustav: Mr Yeager perhaps you need a rest. Some time off.
Yeager: My wife doesn't get any time off. Why should I? I'm warning you Helsing. If you're protecting the vampire that took Emilia from me I'll kill you.
(Yeager leaves. Gustav goes and checks the calendar. We see that tomorrow is St. George's eve.He puts his coat on and leaves)
(Chris and Max's room)
Chris: Who is the general?
Sophie: Not who. What!
Chris & Max: What?
Sophie: I'll explain later come on
(they head down the stairs)
Sophie: Uncle Gustav. Uncle Gustav?
(he's not there)
Chris: That's strange
Sophie: Lets go anyway
(they leave)
(A graveyard in the evening. Gustav is there and heads towards a crypt. We see the name above it is Helsing. He enters)
(Sophie Chris and Max are cycling through a park, they stop and get off their bikes)
Chris: Now look, I'm not one to pry but what are we doing here?
Sophie: Well the general isn't a person. It's a place. This is General George Patton park. People just call it the general.
Chris: Are you saying Lucard buried his treasure here?
Max: Hey of course. Vampires always bury their loot. Well lets find it. It's got to be around here somewhere.
(they all set off)
(Gustav is in the crypt. it is lighted by many candles. There's an open stone casket. Gustav stops to look at a plaque on the wall. It says 'Dr A Van Helsing 1838 - 1912' There's a noise at the door. Gustav hides behind the casket)
(General Patton Park. Chris and Sophie are busy digging. Max is leaning up against a tree)
Chris: You using mental telepathy to dig your hole Max?
Max: I'm thinking
Chris: Yeah well don't hurt yourself
Max: Well you know? I just realised that we are actually looking for a vampires loot on St. George's Eve.
Chris: So?
Max: Well some people believe that on St. George's eve a vampires buried treasure gives of a blue flame
Chris: Oh great so Lucard's goons are probably guarding the money
Sophie: No. Not tonight. When it's a full moon on St. George's eve vampires have to return to where they were first buried
Chris: Where do you guys learn this stuff?
(Sophie and Max laugh)
(Helsing Crypt. Klaus enters holding candles and in full phantom gear. We see Helsing hiding behind the casket. Klaus sets the candles down and Helsing appears from behind the casket)
Gustav: I've been expecting you Klaus. In fact I've been waiting 13 years for this night.
(Klaus vamps out. Gustav produces a cross and backs Klaus into the corner of the crypt)
Klaus: Get away old man
Gustav: 13 years is a long time to wait for a full moon on St. George's Eve
(Gustav starts making a circle of Holy Water around Klaus)
Gustav: The night when vampires must return to their tombs to sleep. This Holy Water will imprison you here.
Klaus: You've been doing your homework. What do you want?
Gustav: I want you to live again. To live as you did before Dracula took you. Then you were alive Klaus
Klaus: I'm alive now. Dracula took me to make me immortal
Gustav: No. He took you because you are my son
(Klaus looks wounded by this comment. He growls at Gustav)
Gustav: You will live again as nature intended you to live. As my son.
(Klaus laughs)
Gustav: I should stake you now and set your soul free, but I can not do it
Klaus: No. Too much of a coward
Gustav: No. Too much of a father. I'm going to seal you in your tomb until I can find a way to free you
Klaus: I'll tear you to rags
(We see Mr Yeager enter the crypt with his bow. Gustav and Klaus don;t notice him)
Gustav: One day I'll find a way to break Dracula's spell on you. Then I'll have you back
Klaus: Dracula will free me and then I'll kill you myself
Gustav: Dracula can't free you. Only I can
Yeager: (aiming the bow at both of them) I was right. You are in league with this murderer
Gustav: I'm only trying to reclaim the soul of my son
Yeager: Your son? Klaus is your son? Then you knew all along. You could have stopped him from turning Emilia into a . . .
Gustav: No. I couldn't have prevented that but I can stop him no if you'll only let me
Yeager: I'll stop you both
(Yeager fires the stake at Gustav. Dracula appears in full vampire gear and stops the stake from killing Gustav. He walks to Yeager and pushes him to the ground with one hand. Klaus laughs)
Lucard: Go ahead Helsing. Finish what you started
Klaus: What? What are you talking about (not understanding) Well go on KILL HIM
Lucard: Klaus you were an excellent assistant but you've become far too unstable
Klaus: Me?
Lucard: I warned you but of course, you didn't listen
Klaus: You're not going to let him seal me in here?
Lucard: Who better to deal with an undisciplined child but his own father and for that service Helsing, I'll tell you, I played a little joke on your surrogate family. They're somewhere out in General Patton park digging for non-existent treasure. Please tell them it's rude to eves drop, won't you? I give you this truce for one night only. And now gentlemen if you'll excuse me, I really must fly.
Gustav: St. George's eve
Lucard: And time to go home for a night
(Lucard takes a bow and then vanishes. Klaus is trapped in the circle of Holy Water he paces around frantically as Gustav drags the unconscious Mr Yeager out of the crypt)
Klaus: Please. Don't father. Please! Please!
(Gustav leaves and seals the crypt by placing a cross in the handle. Klaus is trapped)
(Inside the crypt)
Klaus: (frantic) PLEASE. No
End Of Act 2
Tag
(General Patton Park. Sophie, Chris and Max are sitting in a hole. They are covered in dirt and there are huge piles of soil everywhere)
Chris: Boy, I sure hope they don't make us replace our divots
(Gustav approaches them)
Gustav: Sophie, Chris is that you?
Sophie: Over here Uncle Gustav
Gustav: Well did you find any wild geese?
Max: What do you mean?
Gustav: Our friend Lucard knew you were listening so he sent you on a wild goose chase. (he laughs)
Chris: You mean he was on to us? Well I'm sending him my cleaning bill
Gustav: Max are you alright?
Max: No treasure, no blue flames
Gustav: Oh that's right. It's St. George's eve isn't it? I completely forgot. never mind better luck next year. Come on lets go home
(They all pack up and leave the park. Blue flames begin to appear from beside all the holes they had dug)
